Why Your Routine Isn't Making You Feel Better

Your routine isn't the problem. What you're asking it to carry is.

Somewhere in the last few weeks you decided this was the year you'd finally get it together. Maybe you bought the planner. Maybe you made the list at eleven at night. Maybe you just thought, okay, September, new me.

And if you've been here before, you know how it goes. Ten good days. Then a Tuesday where everything falls apart. Then the planner under a stack of mail, and you're annoyed with yourself again.

You're not lazy and you're not bad at this.

Fall makes almost all of us reach for a reset. But a lot of the time, what we're craving isn't a routine. It's control. We want to feel safe, we want some peace, we want boundaries around a life that's been running us, and we go looking for a ten-step plan to deliver it.

Routines are genuinely good for you. Rigidity isn't the same thing. And from the outside, the two look almost identical.

What we'll get into

  • Why fall does this to everyone, whether or not you have kids in school
  • The difference between wanting structure and wanting control, and why that distinction changes everything
  • The loop: build a routine, feel better briefly, can't keep it, blame yourself, build a stricter one
  • Why your nervous system genuinely needs routine, and where that tips over into rigidity
  • Seven ways to tell which one you're actually running. This is the part people write down.
  • One thing to notice this week that isn't a new plan

Live, one hour, start to finish. Bring your questions and we'll get to as many as we can.

Who this is for

  • You've started your routine over more times than you'd admit out loud.
  • Building the plan is the easy part. Keeping it is where it comes apart.
  • From the outside you're doing great, and most days you'd say you are, and you still can't quite relax.
  • You're not looking for another system. You want to know why the systems don't hold.

Who this isn't for

  • If you've never been someone who builds routines and you've never wanted to be, this hour won't land. It's built for the rebuilders.
  • If you want a morning routine to copy step by step, I'm not going to hand you one. This is about why yours keeps breaking.

I'M CALYSTA.

I help women read the messages their bodies and reactions have been sending, so the patterns they can't think their way out of finally start to shift.

I hold a master's in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in Washington State.

This hour is education, not therapy, and it isn't a substitute for it.
